The Tennessee STEM Education Center (TSEC) at Middle Tennessee State University invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Director of the Tennessee STEM Education Center. Start date for the position may be as early as March 1, 2019. This is a 12-month, full-time (non-tenurable) appointment which will include an appointment in the appropriate academic department.
MTSU is seeking a candidate who will collaborate with stakeholders at local, regional and national levels to promote excellence in STEM education.
Duties include assisting the Director in the formulation of the Center’s long-range and strategic plans; contributing to grant writing, program and project management, and scholarly dissemination through refereed conferences and publications; teaching, mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate researchers; initiating, managing, and providing program oversight for K-16 STEM outreach programs; and serving as a liaison for participating departments within the college and other university outreach support offices as related to STEM programs.
The successful candidate will join a growing team of faculty, professional staff, and student researchers in identifying and addressing current issues in STEM education through outreach, service, teaching, and research.
Candidates who possess any of the following will receive special consideration:
● Demonstrated potential (Assistant level) or success (Associate level) in STEM education research.
● Willingness (Assistant level) or experience (Associate level) in mentoring graduate students in educational outreach and/or research projects leading to published manuscripts.
● Knowledge of various methodologies for evaluating and documenting the results of education programs; familiarity with principles of budgeting, financial management, and cost accounting for federal and non-federal gifts and grants.
● Ability to develop and implement K-12 STEM outreach programs or curriculum.
● Potential for (Assistant level) or success at (Associate level) acquiring and administering external funding for programs.
