Director of General Chemistry Laboratories (with Faculty Rank)

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Southwestern University seeks
applicants for a Director of General Chemistry Laboratories with the rank
of Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) to begin in summer 2021. The
major responsibility of this position is teaching and managing our
two-semester guided-inquiry general chemistry laboratory series. The
successful candidate is expected to coordinate all sections of the
laboratory and develop curricular innovations consistent with departmental
priorities, including active and student-centered learning experiences. The
Director will collaborate with lecture instructors by organizing our
peer-led team learning sessions for general chemistry, coordinating
departmental tutors, and maintaining our nuclear magnetic resonance
spectrometer.

There is an additional expectation to actively contribute to university and
departmental service and participate in academic advising and retention
initiatives. They must be committed to undergraduate teaching and
demonstrate a dedication to inclusiveness and fostering the success of
racially and economically diverse student populations in both the classroom
and laboratory. In line with Southwestern University’s commitment to
