IUPAC CCCE 2021 Symposium (It Gets Better: LGBTQ+ in Chem)

Greetings fellow chemistry educators,

I am writing to inform you that the IUPAC CCCE 2021 meeting will be held virtually between August 13-20, 2021. Amongst the many interesting symposia listed (including those in chemistry education) on the conference website, I would like to advertise a symposium that I and a committee are organizing titled: "It Gets Better: LGBTQ+ in Chem".

In this conference symposium we bring together the 2SLGBTQ+ community and allies to establish a supportive network and discuss initiatives to improve inclusive culture in both industry and academia. This symposium will feature presentations on student faculty perspectives on the 2SLGBTQ+ community in Chemistry and showcase the achievements of some of our most successful scientists. Panel discussions featuring EDI leaders from industry and university will empower individuals, allies, bystanders, and institutions.

Here are the invited speakers in our symposium.

James Nowick, University of California, Irvine, USA
Lee Penn, University of Minnesota, USA
Heather Andreas, Dalhousie University, Canada
Erika Mershrod, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada
John Hayward, University of Windsor, Canada
Tiago Vieira, Gilead, USA
Christopher Bannochie, Savannah River National Laboratory, USA
Benny Chan, The College of New Jersey, USA
John Limanto, Merck, USA

Abstracts are still being accepted (deadline is March 16) if you would like to participate in our symposium.

Please share this email with whomever (colleagues, students, etc.) you feel might be interested. I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Keep well everyone,
