Job Posting - CER Postdoctoral Researcher Position at The Ohio State University

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar to work on an NSF-sponsored project titled “Collaborative Research: Coaching for Equity: Empowering Chemistry Graduate Teaching Assistants through Leadership Practices.” See official post here. This project is in collaboration with Dr. Ginger Shultz of the University of Michigan. The successful candidate will work under the direction of and be mentored by Drs. Josie Nardo and Meng-Yang Matthew Wu.  

The Post Doctoral Scholar is expected to engage with data that pertains to student survey data in undergraduate classes, undergraduate student interviews, video recordings of teaching assistant professional development, and video recordings of teaching assistant-student interactions. The Post Doctoral Scholar will also contribute to the design, implementation, and facilitation of related research activities (e.g., ethnographic observations, teaching assistant training, and summer workshop sessions). Duties will include but are not limited collecting, analyzing, and evaluating data (surveys, observations, interviews); incorporating equity- and justice-based literature, leveraging both qualitative and quantitative methods; presenting results at conferences/workshops; curating a video library of enacted chemistry instruction; writing manuscripts to publish results in peer-reviewed journals; mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers; and supporting group activities through collaborative service work.

Qualifications:  

Doctoral Degree in Chemistry with specialization in Chemistry Education or related area required. Doctoral Degree in Learning Sciences, Education, or other Discipline-Based Education Research fields will also be considered.  

Preferably has demonstrated experience and/or interest in social justice education research, teaching assistant professional development, curriculum development, survey/instrument development, ethnographic observations, identity research, video analysis, and/or discourse analysis. Research philosophy that integrates chemistry conceptual understanding as equity-based initiatives is highly prioritized. Strong software skills in NVivo, Transana, STATA, SPSS, and/or R desired. Finally, familiarity with the Microsoft Office suit (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is required. 

Additional Information

The ideal start date is beginning of 2025 but can be flexibly adjusted up until August 2025 .

The pay range for this job profile is $61,008. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
