General Chemistry Laboratory Instructors (Job #: 799712)
The Department of Chemistry (http://www.chemistry.msu.edu) at Michigan State University seeks outstanding candidates for TWO, full time, 12-month positions of Fixed-Term Academic Specialist for the General Chemistry Laboratory program. These positions are renewable upon satisfactory performance and available funding. Successful candidates will become part of the General Chemistry Program, which offers evidence-based, transformed lecture and laboratory courses for STEM majors and is committed to creating inclusive learning environments that promote the success of all students.
These positions will work closely with the General Chemistry Lab Coordinators to assist in the coordination and instruction of the primary general chemistry laboratory sequence (CEM 161 and CEM 162) for STEM majors. They will report to the Director of General Chemistry and will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students associated with MSU’s general chemistry programs. Responsibilities for these positions include instructing up to four sections of CEM 161 or CEM 162 each semester (depending on the needs of the program), assisting with the training and mentorship of laboratory teaching assistants (approximately 50 each semester), and continuing to refine the existing evidence-based approaches to laboratory curriculum. The individuals hired for these positions will have an opportunity to be involved in campus-wide efforts to transform pedagogy in gateway science and mathematics courses.
