The Chemical Education Research Committee (a standing committee of the ACS Division of Chemical Education) sponsors several symposia every year. As part of a strategic effort to increase inclusive participation within our ongoing activities, we would like to open a call for symposia organizers for 2022-2023.
There are several symposia that we will sponsor at each of the following conferences over the next year:
- Research in Chemical Education - Fall ACS National Meeting - August 21-25, 2022 - Chicago, IL
- Research in Chemical Education - Spring ACS National Meeting - March 26-30, 2023 - Indianapolis, IN
- New and Noteworthy - Spring ACS National Meeting - March 26-30, 2023 - Indianapolis, IN
- Research in Chemical Education - Fall ACS National Meeting - August 13-17, 2023 - San Francisco, CA
- Putting Chemical Education Research into Practice - Fall ACS National Meeting - August 13-17, 2023 - San Francisco, CA
We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to help organize each of these symposia. If you or someone you know are interested, please contact Thomas Bussey (tbussey@ucsd.edu).
Who can be a symposium organizer?
Anyone. You don't need to have previous experience organizing a symposium at a national conference. We have many resources and supports to help you in this role. This a great opportunity to gain service experience at the national/international level.
What does a symposium organizer do?
The organizers will review, organize, and schedule the talks submitted to the symposium. This work will be done online through the MAPS system (the ACS abstract submission system).
Do I have to be able to attend the conference for which I am an organizer?
No. As an organizer, you will need to assign a presider for the session(s) of your symposium. The presider will need to be present at the conference (virtually or in person, depending on the format of the conference). As an organizer, you can choose to be a presider or recruit others to fill this role.
If you are interested in this opportunity or have additional questions, please contact Thomas Bussey (tbussey@ucsd.edu).
