POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

               Job Title: Science Education Research & Development Associate

Department: Learning Sciences Research Institute, University of Illinois at Chicago

Work Location: LSRI at UIC (we are open to considering remote work based on candidate’s availability)

Work Status: Part Time at Hourly Rate (up to 20 hours/week)

The Next Generation Science Assessment (NGSA) group is looking to hire an experienced science educator for 20 hours/week starting 2/1/2020. The end date is 7/31/2020 with a possible extension to 12/31/20 based on funding availability. The candidate will be part of a multi-institutional collaborative team (UIC, MSU, WestEd, and the Concord Consortium) working on the design of middle school science assessments that are intended for classroom use. The work is funded by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. The details of the position can be found below:

Principal Roles and Responsibilities

Work collaboratively on creating classroom assessment tasks for middle school physical science Performance Expectations from the Next Generation Science Standards. The position includes the following responsibilities:

  1. Collaboratively unpacking physical science performance expectations
  2. Developing design blueprints for assessment tasks
  3. Drafting assessment tasks
  4. Reviewing assessment tasks created by other group members
  5. Drafting scoring rubrics to accompany the tasks
  6. Plan and conduct pilot studies on the usability of the tasks in the classrooms

Qualifications

  1. Background in physical science (either through teaching middle school or high school, or through academic training)
  2. Knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  3. Experience in designing resources aligned to the NGSS
  4. Experience in assessment design is preferred
