Postdoctoral Position with ACS Exams
The ACS Examinations Institute regularly seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate(s) for a full-time, 12-month position with benefits that can begin on or near August 1 annually. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a maximum of one additional year, contingent on satisfactory performance and resources. Postdoctoral Research Associates will work under the supervision of either Dr. Kristen L. Murphy at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee or Dr. Jeffrey R. Raker at the University of South Florida; the appointee is expected to establish residency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, or Tampa, Florida, for the duration of the appointment.
The successful candidate will have the skills and experience to contribute to ongoing and emerging research initiatives of ACS Exams and associated grant projects through project development, data collection and analysis, and dissemination of project deliverables through peer-reviewed publications. The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of these areas: course- and program-level assessment and evaluation, use of item response theory to evaluate dichotomous or polytomous data, differential item functioning analyses, development and evaluation of content learning measures (including determining the validity and reliability of data), programming of statistical software to conduct simulation-type studies, use of eye-tracking technologies, development and administration of national surveys including developing sampling strategies and analyzing weighted survey data, development and facilitation of professional development workshops. A Ph.D. in chemical education, science education, discipline-based education research or related field is required at time of appointment. Preference will be given for candidates with additional content expertise in one or more of these content areas: analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, or physical chemistry.
The successful candidate will prepare a professional development plan in the first month of their appointment. This plan will address (A) a timeline for preparing application materials for post-appointment employment, (B) an articulated set of milestones for achieving research goals, (C) an articulated set of milestones for a small independent research project that contributes to the research initiatives of ACS Exams, and (D) proposed series of professional development opportunities including by not limited to attending professional meetings, participation in programs offered by a center for teaching and learning excellence or auditing graduate-level courses. Successful candidates will have opportunities to participate in the preparation of grant proposals.
