Postdoctoral Positions in the Stowe Lab at UW-Madison

Dear Colleagues:

The Stowe Lab (https://www.chem.wisc.edu/users/rstowe) in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin – Madison is seeking postdoctoral associates in chemistry education research. We are looking for motivated, creative scholars interested in engaging with research programs dedicated to developing, assessing, and refining high school and college chemistry learning environments. Our work is aimed at the practical goal of improving learning environments, and to refining the theoretical commitments that could and should inform chemistry education research. Much of our design and analysis work is grounded in the view that learning in science should involve connecting topics to large-grain core ideas (e.g., energy, electrostatic and bonding interactions) as students predict, explain, and model ever more complex systems. Specific research objectives and project management duties will be negotiated with each postdoctoral associate. Review of application materials will begin immediately, and applications will be considered until positions are filled. These positions are renewable annually, contingent upon funding and/or satisfactory performance.

Potential candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in chemistry education research, the learning sciences, or a related discipline. Candidates with expertise in developing and/or assessing materials aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, evidence-centered design of assessments, mixed-methods study designs, or teacher professional learning are particularly encouraged to apply. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; an ability to work productively in a collaborative environment; and a willingness to mentor junior members of a nascent community of chemistry education researchers are essential.

Applications should consist of a single .pdf file that includes: (1) a cover letter (1-2 pages) that highlights past research accomplishments and how this postdoctoral training experience will align with future research and career goals; (2) a curriculum vitae; and (3) names and email addresses of three references. This .pdf file may be submitted to me via email (rstowe@chem.wisc.edu).

Kind regards,
                Ryan
