Postdoctoral Research Associate Position at Michigan State University

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Chemistry at Michigan State University. The successful candidate will be mentored by Dr. Nicole M. Becker.

The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension for a second year based on performance and the availability of funding. The beginning salary will be $61,008.

Duties and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work on STEM research projects including, but not limited to, a project addressing undergraduate chemistry students’ epistemic ideas related to bonding models in predicting chemical phenomena. The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Design assessments, including interview protocols
  • Collect and analyze survey, semi-structured interview and quantitative data as needed
  • Analyze qualitative data using qualitative software packages
  • Describe, in writing, themes emerging from analyses
  • Present results at national conferences

 

Education Requirement:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemical education, science education, or a closely related field.

 

Required qualifications:

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong chemistry content knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Strong teaching and mentoring skills
  • Experience in qualitative data collection and data analysis using software packages

Desirable qualifications:

  • Strong record of publication and scholarly writing
  • Curricular development experience
