Job Description: 

The Department of Chemistry at East Carolina University seeks applications to fill a Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor position beginning on July 1, 2021. This fixed-term faculty position is for the 2021-2022 fiscal year, with the possibility of subsequent appointments.

The duties of the position include teaching two undergraduate major lab courses per semester in analytical, physical, organic, inorganic, or biochemistry and serving as coordinator for a junior or senior level chemistry lab course, as appropriate based on expertise. Instruction and lab coordination will support Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs), and the newly hired individual will work with students, in consultation with departmental research faculty, to carry out original research that includes synthesizing and characterizing novel compounds and elucidating their properties. Coordination of labs includes instrument support duties, for both instructional and research instrumentation. Additional duties will include serving on the Chemistry Department Safety Committee, acting as a liaison with external and other on-campus agencies, such as the Office of Environmental Health & Safety. This employee will also be responsible for managing the overall operation of the stockroom in the Department of Chemistry, including supervising work study and/or self-study undergraduate students, and graduate assistantship funded graduate student workers. Synergy with one or more key research, service, or educational missions of the department is also expected.
