Hi chem ed colleagues!
We are excited to announce an interdisciplinary conference on advancing research on quantitative reasoning (QR) in STEM education! The conference will be held at Chapman University on January 15-16, 2026, and will have three fantastic plenary speakers (Anita Schuhardt, bio education; Marcy Towns, chemistry education; Lindsey Engle Richland, math education). The conference has the following goals:
- Provide a forum for sharing research about the teaching and learning of QR in STEM
- Facilitate conversations between different STEM education research disciplines
- Synthesize current research on QR in STEM, exploring key themes across STEM education disciplines
- Identify opportunities for future research and collaboration among different STEM education research disciplines related to QR
- Generate a meeting report or white paper that summarizes the state of research on QR in STEM
Early bird registration and abstract submission (short talks and posters) are now open; abstracts are due by October 15. Please visit our conference website for more information, registration, and abstract submission: https://sites.chapman.edu/qrstemeducationconference/ Works in progress are welcome, and we particularly encourage submissions from trainees. The conference is also being held immediately prior to the Society for Advancement of Biology Education Research – West (SABER West) meeting, so that you can attend both the QR conference and SABER West conferences in one trip to Southern California!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Jeremy, on behalf of the conference planning team (Tara Barnhart, Sonja Cwik, Dan Dries, Doug Havard, Nicol Howard, and Jeremy Hsu)
