FW: HSI STEM Pedagogy Conference in Chicago May 3-4

Northeastern Illinois University will host a National Science Foundation-sponsored conference on "Catalyzing Progress in Undergraduate STEM Education with Insights from Midwestern HSIs", to be held in Chicago May 3-4, 2018. Keynote speakers include Sylvia Hurtado (UCLA), Aixa Alfonso (U of Illinois/Chicago), Mark Harris (Illinois Science and Technology Coalition), AE Dreyfuss (CUNY), Mel Sabella (Chicago State U), Kaatje Kraft (Whatcom Community College), Jessica Middlemas Maher (U of Wisconsin/Madison), Elsa Villa (U of Texas/El Paso), and Talitha Washington (NSF).

We are looking for people to present their work in special sessions devoted to the pedagogy of physics, chemistry, life sciences, mathematics, computer science, and geoscience, as well as session on Hispanic-Serving Institutions identity, capacity building, and students.

Do you know of anyone who might be interested in presenting their work? If so, could you forward this message to them, and invite them to submit an abstract? Presenters will speak for approximately 20-25 minutes each. We expect an audience of about 20 attendees at each session. Traditional lecture, workshop format, or other style of presentation all are welcome.

We are particularly interested in presentations that place STEM pedagogy in the context of the particular strengths and challenges of students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions or other Minority-Serving Institutions.

Registration for the conference is free. Travel Grants are available for attendees who are coming from more than 100 miles from the conference venue.

Information on the conference appears at http://hsi-midwest.org.

Sincerely,

Laura Sanders
