Chem ed postdoc at Northern Illinois University

Northern Illinois University (NIU) is seeking applications for a post-doctoral scholar in Chemistry Education in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. This candidate will be one of two inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) scholars for NIU.

Initial appointment is for 2 years, with the possibility of renewing for an additional year. Salary is commensurate with experience starting at $50,000 plus benefits.

The responsibilities of post-doctoral fellow will include: teaching one section of CHEM 110; collaborating on existing funded research projects; mentoring undergraduate STEM majors; participating in the NIU DBER group; collaborating on the development of novel external funding proposals; presenting research at departmental colloquium and STEM education-related conferences; and preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

- PhD chemistry, chemistry education, or related discipline

- Demonstrated successful teaching experience

- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a productive team

- Detail oriented to ensure research protocols are followed

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

- Experience mentoring and/or tutoring students from diverse backgrounds

- Prior experience engaging in academic or extramural activities related to diversity issues

- Proficiency with statistics, graphical software, and human-subjects research protocols

- Interest in engaging with one of NIU's four academic diversity centers: Center for Latino and Latin American Studies, Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Center for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality, and Center for Black Studies.
