Research Associate -- NSF IUSE Full-Time, Exempt (12 months) Job Code: FP1427
Chemistry and Biochemistry Department Academic Affairs Note: This job announcement has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. SUMMARY This is a grant-funded, research focused position with primary responsibilities including data acquisition and analysis. The individual in this position will assist investigators compile assessment data, coordinate evaluation activities, and disseminate outcomes related to the NSF IUSE project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General
1. Assists investigators and train student apprentices who will assist with data collection and analysis.
2. Contributes to updating the database of student program participants relevant to addressing research questions, reporting, and evaluation.
3. Assists with the revision of hypothesis, research questions, and methods.
4. Conducts literature reviews.
Data Collection and Analysis
5. Follows ethical and logistical protocols for collecting new and utilizing historical data as outlined in the projects data management plan.
6. Identifies and utilizes various platforms for data collection (Qualtrics, Google Forms, national databases, etc.) and for data compilation and sharing (SmartSheet, DropBox, Office 360, etc.).
7. Performs course observations and assist investigators with the coding of video observations and focus groups.
8. Analyzes data using qualitative and quantitative methods, summarize finding, and create artifacts for data visualization.
9. Works with external consultants to coordinate data transcription, editing, and coding for assigned projects.
Data Sharing and Reporting
10. Provides ready access to all analyzed data for primary investigators, collaborators, and evaluators.
11. Contributes to the development of publications, presentations and annual reports.
12. Manages and respond to project related emails.
13. Attends project meetings and communicates with internal and external project staff.
Education and/or Experience Master's degree required, doctorate degree preferred. A minimum of two years of experience in data collection, management, and analysis required. Experience in education or social science research in college/university environment is preferred.
Knowledge of research design in qualitative, quantitative, experimental, and mixed method preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills, record keeping, organizational, and customer service skills are required. This position requires demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively, interact in a diverse community, and be able to adjust to a changing needs of the project. The individual should be able to think independently about research hypothesis and outcomes.
Ethics training (CITI or similar) will be provided and confidentiality and IRB compliance is required. Strong oral and written communication skills required; demonstrated ability to prepare routine correspondence and research publications, proofread documents, and to effectively represent the project. The incumbent must be able to read and interpret research literature related to social science and education.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) including Office 360. The project utilizes the following applications on a regular basis and incumbent should have some familiarity with some or all of these applications: Qualtrics (or other survey platforms), Atlas.ti, Vnote, Google Forms and Docs, Adobe Sign, SmartSheet, STATA (or other statistical software), and DropBox. Must be able to access and navigate various online databases. The individual should have experience operating within Web-based internet environments.
