The Chemistry Education Research group at the University of Ottawa seeks a candidate to fill a one-year post-doctoral research associate position for a project in science education research. This project is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (Insight Grant) and is a collaboration with Dr. Peter Mahaffy at the King’s University. We are investigating “Visualizing and learning in STEM: How might we equitably and inclusively equip learners with Systems Thinking, mental models, and mechanistic reasoning skills?”.

September 2021 (flexible)

Educational requirement (required by start date)
Doctoral degree in chemistry, chemistry education research, higher education research, educational psychology, science education, or a related field.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have some mix of expertise in the following areas:
● Postsecondary assessment, evaluation, and/or educational research
● Evidence-based teaching, learning, and assessment in chemistry education
● Contributing to collaborative research projects
● Designing and conducting qualitative research studies, including data collection, analysis, and management
● Designing and conducting quantitative research studies, including statistical analysis and programming (e.g., SPSS, R)
● Strong organizational skills and ability to complete complex projects according to deadlines
● Excellent analytical and communication skills
● Organic chemistry
● Biochemistry
● Demonstrated leadership and mentorship abilities

The postdoctoral associate will be expected to participate in the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
