Our Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at UTEP is in search of an Assistant Professor of Instruction to coordinate and support our organic chemistry laboratory courses. This position is expected to coordinate instructional activities, assessments, logistics and training of teaching assistants. The candidate is expected to help expand and modernize the curriculum in consultation with the organic chemistry faculty. This position will also have the opportunity to participate in chemistry education research projects.
Position description and requirements:
Assistant Professor of Instruction - Organic Chemistry Teaching Laboratory: The College of Science at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking applications for a non tenure-track position for an assistant professor of instruction in the Organic Chemistry Teaching Laboratory. We seek a candidate who coordinates the instructional activities, assessments, and logistics of the organic chemistry teaching laboratory, and supports its infrastructure including handling the ordering of chemicals, supplies, and replacement glassware, keeping an inventory, and making sure the equipment/instrumentation is functional. The candidate is expected to expand or modernize the curriculum in consultation with the organic chemistry faculty, to include experiments that utilize available instrumentation, to work closely with Environmental Health and Safety staff, to create training materials for teaching assistants and students, to oversee the training of the teaching assistants and to supervise them. The candidate should also be willing to seek extramural funding, potentially collaboratively, to support the educational endeavors in the Organic Chemistry teaching laboratory. The anticipated appointment date is Spring 2022.
Requirements include: A PhD degree in chemistry or a closely related field, a strong background in organic chemistry, and two years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities stated in the job description.
